PNG to JPG, DOCX to PDF, and the conversions people actually need
Most file problems are not creative problems. A form refuses a screenshot. A desktop program will not open an iPhone photo. A client asks for PDF and you only have a Word file. A chat thread will play a GIF and will not play the video you recorded. The pixels, the words, or the sound already exist. The container is wrong. Conversion is the job of changing that container without pretending the new file is a better original.

PNG to JPG when a form only accepts photographs
PNG keeps every pixel. Text stays sharp, edges stay clean, and a dark screenshot does not grow the blotchy squares JPEG leaves around letters. Keep the PNG if you will still need to read small type next month. Convert when the door on the other side is older than the file. Ticket systems, some email gateways, and a lot of printer dialogs still say JPG only.
A PNG to JPG conversion is a photograph export. JPG throws detail away to save space, and it has no transparency. A transparent edge becomes a solid color. On a document, white is the safe choice. On a full-screen capture of a dark page, matching that dark background is safer than a surprise white frame. After the file comes back, zoom in on the smallest text you care about. If a digit looks soft, raise the quality and export again. A tiny JPG that nobody can read is not a successful conversion.
The reverse, JPG to PNG, does not restore detail JPG already discarded. It only wraps the same picture in a lossless container. Use it when a tool demands PNG and you do not have the camera original. Do not expect a blurry photograph to become a crisp scan because the extension changed.
HEIC to JPG and WEBP to JPG
iPhones save photos as HEIC unless the camera is set to the older compatible format. The pictures look normal on the phone and then fail in a Windows program, a school portal, or a printer from a few years ago. HEIC to JPG is the conversion those desks still search for. IntoConvert can read HEIC and does not write HEIC back, which matches the usual need: leave the Apple format behind and hand over a JPG anyone can open. Keep the HEIC on the phone if you might print the photo later at full quality. Send the JPG.
WEBP to JPG is the same kind of mismatch. Browsers and chat apps hand you WebP because it is small. A desktop editor, a government form, or an older content system then refuses it. Clear pixels in a WebP become white in the JPG, the same way PNG transparency becomes white. Look at a logo before you send it. If the mark used to float on a transparent background, the white box may be new, and you may want a PNG instead of a JPG for that one file.
DOCX to PDF, and PDF back to Word
A Word file is editable. A PDF is a page. People ask for DOCX to PDF when they want the recipient to read the document without shifting fonts, and when they do not want the recipient to keep typing in the draft. Layout can still move. A wide table, a text box, or a font the converter does not have will reflow. Open the PDF and read the last line of each page before you send it. A signature line that fell onto the next page is a failed delivery even if the download succeeded.
PDF to DOCX goes the other way, and it is weaker. The converter places the text it can find into a Word file. A scanned PDF that is only a picture of paper has no text to place, so the Word file stays empty. That is not a bug you can click past. You would need a different process that recognizes characters in an image. If the PDF was exported from Word in the first place, the text is usually there and the DOCX is a usable draft, not a perfect clone of the columns and headers.
Locked PDFs stay locked. That is the correct behavior. Do not look for a way around a password on a file you do not own. If it is yours, recover the password from the program that created it.
PDF to JPG, and pictures back into a PDF
Sometimes the portal wants images, not a document. PDF to JPG renders each page as a picture. More than one page comes back as a ZIP, and the practical ceiling on IntoConvert is 30 pages. That fits a short letter, a two-page form, or a small report. It does not fit a book. Each JPG is a photo of the page, so you cannot search the words inside it the way you could search the PDF. Put the date and the subject in the filename.
The opposite request is common too. A landlord or a school asks for one PDF, and you only have photos. JPG to PDF, or PNG to PDF, staples those images into a single attachment. Resize first if the photos are huge. A 40 megapixel picture of a laptop screen becomes a PDF that mail servers reject. Convert after you have a sensible size, then open the PDF and confirm nothing important slid into the margin.
Spreadsheets, drawings, and sound
An Excel sheet is not a picture until you decide it should be. XLSX to PDF writes the sheet onto a page, which is what you send when someone must see the layout and must not edit the formulas. XLSX to CSV opens the sheet into comma-separated rows. CSV is the format databases, import tools, and a lot of accounting software actually accept. You lose formatting, multiple sheets need care, and formulas become the values they last calculated. That is usually what an import wants. Keep the XLSX if you still need the formulas.
Drawings are a different trap. SVG stays sharp at any zoom because it is not a grid of pixels. The moment a form demands a bitmap, you must choose a pixel size, and that choice is permanent. SVG to PNG rasterizes the drawing at a fixed size. The PNG is a picture. You cannot enlarge it forever and still have a clean edge. Export at the width the page will display, often one to two thousand pixels on the long side, and keep the SVG beside it if you might move an arrow next week.
Video and audio split the same way. MP4 to GIF is for a few seconds that should autoplay in a chat: a palette, a start time, an end time, a width, a frame rate, and whether it loops. A full minute at the original size becomes larger than the video it came from. GIF to MP4 is the repair for an old animation that stutters in email and would play more cleanly, and usually smaller, as video. MP4 to MP3 throws the picture away and keeps the sound. A silent screen recording cannot become speech. Conversion does not invent a track that was never recorded.
What happens to the file after you download it
IntoConvert states the processing plainly. The file is uploaded to its server, converted there, and deleted after the download. It is not forwarded to some other service as a second copy you cannot see. Image types such as JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, and GIF share one image path. DOCX, PDF, XLSX, and CSV use the document path. Audio bitrate, GIF size, and video frame rate show up only when that conversion needs them. A single file, 150 MB, is the bound. If you are converting a client contract or a photo of an identity document, download it, check it, and do not leave the only copy in a browser tab.
Quality settings matter more than the brand of the button. JPG quality, GIF width, and the page size of a PDF decide whether the result is usable. Open the output on a phone, not only on the computer that made it. Read the smallest line you care about. If you cannot, the export is wrong even though the extension is right. Name the file with the subject and the date so a thread of five attachments stays in order.
Keep the original until you are sure. A PNG to JPG step, a DOCX to PDF step, or an HEIC to JPG step is a delivery copy. It is not a reason to empty the folder the original lived in. If the recipient replies that a table moved or a logo turned white, you still have the file you can export again with different settings. That second export is faster than reconstructing the work, and it is the habit that makes conversion safe.
